Cloud Computing leads the way into the future !

Research studies say that the cloud is the next generation of computing. Competitive advantage, cost reduction, scalability, data accessibility and system integration are some of the chief factors that show us the inevitable - Cloud computing leads the way into the future!

Cloud computing services have opened up a plethora of possibilities where the sky's the limit! It includes IT services, online backup, management software, integrated communications, etc.

Of companies who adopted cloud, 52% reported increased data center efficiency and utilization, while 47% said they witnessed lower operating costs.

Cloud Computing

Based on Services

The three categories of cloud computing based on services provided are-

  • Software as a service (SaaS), for example, Google apps, Slack etc

  • Platform as a service (PaaS), for example, Google cloud, IBM, Facebook

  • Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), for example, dropbox, recovery services etc.

These services are hosted by cloud providers and made available through the internet for users. The flow of data from clients/users (servers, laptops, desktops, tablets etc) through the internet to the providers' system and back is facilitated through the internet. Since cloud solutions are managed completely by cloud providers, there is no need for a company to host applications on its servers.

Cloud Computing

Based on Deployment (Cloud based)

The three types of cloud computing deployment are-

  • Public Cloud

  • Private Cloud

  • Hybrid Cloud

It becomes an important call for organizations to decide the type of cloud environment that is beneficial for their operations.

Cloud services that a cloud provider makes available to a number of customers over the internet are Public clouds. When data is made available through an organization’s internal infrastructure, it is not available to other users. These are private clouds and are used in sectors that need advanced security protocols.

Many cloud service development teams combine public and private cloud services are called hybrid cloud services. This enables the organization to take advantage of the benefits of both cloud types. The sensitive data can be stored in a private cloud while other resources that are to be accessed by all the members can be stored in the public cloud.

Why Cloud

Ever since time immemorial, information has played a major role in people's lives in every sphere. The necessity for innovation arose when it became challenging to store the vast volume of information being continuously generated by businesses, industries, institutions, and homes. Valuable information stored manually on paper made retrieving them very difficult. Albert Einstein quoted, “Intelligence is not the ability to store information, but to know where to find it!” In this tech-savvy world, it would be apt to say, “Intelligence is not the ability to store information, but to know where to retrieve it from!”

This paved the way for the usage of hard drives and servers for storing, processing and retrieving a considerable volume of data quickly. In this ever-changing, fast-paced world, hard drives and servers too became redundant. A strong internet presence and web dominance dominate today’s world. This led to inevitable innovations in the field of storage solutions. Cloud computing took over the IT and business worlds like a twirling tornado, though for good!

To put it in simple terms, a cloud computing solution is a virtual space where data can be stored, managed, processed and accessed globally over the internet. Clouds facilitate cloud computing, which is the process of running workloads within a cloud environment. The high cost of setting up the traditional storage devices, the team needed to maintain them, and limited space for storage were some of the concerns that have been addressed efficiently by this technology. The leading cloud providers (for example, Microsoft Azure or Amazon web services) provide cloud management services that include providing the platform to store data and retrieve and manage them through portals.
